Handbuilding Creatures
Craft the weird & the eerie in clay
Service Description
Contemporary capitalism loves colonising our imagination. It quietly redraws the borders of what feels possible, whispering that every dream should become a project, every passion a side hustle, every rebellion a brand. Thankfully, the weird and the eerie keep trespassing. They arrive like little glitches in the script, reminding us that reality is stranger than capitalism would have us believe. Other ways of living have not vanished, they've simply been buried, forgotten, or declared impossible. The strange unsettles what feels fixed, opening tiny cracks through which neglected futures can breathe again. So, let's cultivate the strange. In this ceramics workshop, we'll sculpt a weird or eerie creature (or perhaps an amulet) to accompany us in everyday life. Sitting on your bookshelf or lurking at the bottom of your bag, your little companion won't be useful nor particularly pretty, but it will quietly remind you not to abide by capitalist realism. Across a 4h session we'll begin with a hands-on introduction to ceramics (no experience needed!), spend some time imagining our companions together (bring sketches, books, strange references, or simply an empty brain) then get our hands wonderfully dirty with clay. You can decide to come back for an optional glazing session to give our creatures their final colours and textures.
